Spotlight on Anna Vreeke by
Anna
An Unseen Skaters special. January 29, 2003.
How did you begin skating?
I started skating when I was seven years old. I went one time at Easter and was hooked from my first time on. I've always enjoyed it!
What events do you intend to enter this season?
I will be in Novice Ladies this season, and I will be competing at Goldenwest and Southwest Pacific Region and hopefully Nationals. [Editor's note: Anna placed 8th in her Novice qualifying round at Southwest Pacific Regionals in early October 2001.]
What are you long-term goals?
On the ice my long-term goals are to be on the Olympic team and to hopefully get a medal. Off the ice I would love to be a coach and watch others do well.
What do you consider to be the strongest and weakest aspects of your skating?
My strong aspects of skating are my jumps and spins, and my enjoyment of it. My weakest are footwork and moves in the field.
Which skaters do you admire and why?
I admire Angela Nikodinov and Anthony Liu because I watch them train everyday, and under no circumstances do you see them give up. They are both helpful with my skating and I enjoy being around them.
Who has influenced your skating the most?
Probably my mom and my coach have had the greatest impact on my skating because they are always there for me and have pushed me to do my best job.
What was your most memorable moment on the ice?
My most memorable moment on the ice was probably the fist time I landed my double axel because that really made me strive for more in my skating, which I think has helped me so much over the past year.
What motivates you to skate?
What motivates me to skate is when I'm skating to really loud fast music, it gets me pumped. It also motivates me to watch my competitors skate.
