Courtney McMurtry > Novice Ladies
2003 Eastern Great Lakes Regional Novice Ladies Bronze Medalist

Courtney McMurtry was born on March 6, 1989.  She began skating at age six at a local rink after watching the 1994 Olympics on TV.  She is currently coached by Allen Schramm, and Igor Shpilband choreographs her programs.  She competes for the Detroit SC.

McMurtry’s long-term goals include medaling at Nationals, Worlds and the Olympics.  She hopes to get straight A’s in school and to attend Harvard Law School.  Regarding who has had the greatest impact on her skating, McMurtry names her coaches and parents.  “They have always encouraged me to strive to be the best skater and person I can be. Also they always know how to help me out of a bad day and turn it into a good day,” she says.

Sasha Cohen, Timothy Goebel, Alexei Yagudin, Tara Lipinski and Michelle Kwan are her favorite skaters, and the double axel and triple lutz are McMurtry’s favorite jumps.  She also likes the sit spin and footwork.
